Dr Rajni Kant is currently working as Director, ICMR-Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC), Gorakhpur with additional charge as Scientist ‘G’ and Head, Division of Research Management, Policy, Planning and Coordination (RMPPC) at ICMR Hqrs, New Delhi. He has vast experience of 35 years in the area of biomedical research, health policy, research management, strategic planning, publication, information, education and communication. His primary research interests include malaria control strategies and vector bionomics particularly the bioenvironmental control of malaria with special inclination towards community based eco-friendly approaches towards Gandhian way of life.
Recently he has been involved in an innovative project on ‘Gandhi and Health@150’ and brought out a special issue of Indian Journal of Medical Research (IJMR) on ‘Gandhi and Health’ as well as pioneered school based awareness program with the name ‘Mission SHAKTTI’ (School based Awareness, Knowledge Test and Training Initiative), which was implemented in 36 schools of Delhi. He has also been associated with the DST sponsored project on preparation of Global Malaria Database and Journal Directory and has worked as Coordinator for the Digitization of century old Indian Journal of Medical Research (IJMR) since its inception (1913). He is the member of various scientific societies/academies such as National Academy of Vector Borne Diseases, Bhubaneswar; Indian Society for Parasitology, Lucknow; Bioved Research Society, Allahabad; Vigyan Parishad, Allahabad; Indian Science Congress Association; Kolkata, etc. He has received various awards and prizes including NAVBD Environmental Science Award of National Academy of Vector Borne Diseases, Young Scientist Award for outstanding work in the area of malaria research, best poster award, etc. He is also the reviewer of many national and international journals and delivered many lectures in the area of malaria and mosquito control, biomedical communication, medical & technical writing and chaired technical sessions. He has also supervised Ph. D. thesis, reviewed research projects/synopsis and has been member of many selection, screening and other technical, policy level and management committees. He has also been involved in editing/copy editing and bringing out many documents, reports, books including the XII Plan Document of the DHR/ICMR and has also been associated with the planning commission (now NITI Ayog, Govt of India) in preparing the health chapter of the XII Five Year Plan. He has many research papers, popular articles, scientific abstracts, letter to editors, correspondences, etc in national and international journals.
